The story starts in 1964 with three surfers and continues through to the millennium where over three hundred surfers at Saltburn by the Sea now enjoy the 'Sport of Kings', a reference to the Hawaiian kings, the true pioneers of surfing.
The book attempts to capture the spirit of surfing at Saltburn, an area that is far from exotic, yet boasts a rich surfing heritage and world class waves.
There is a sign on the pier that warns surfers not to jump off. On a big surf day, some surfers make their way to the end of the sturdy 206m structure and jump off like lemmings. They jump metaphorically into a sense of freedom.
